Concentration and Competition
The capital markets are built on the premise of robust competition. In recent years, however, rapid concentration across the financial services industry has dramatically altered the competitive landscape for many businesses, none more than in asset management. The growing dominance of the largest, multi-trillion dollar asset managers has a direct impact on investor choice, as well as potential risks and fees.
While the banking regulators have taken dramatic steps to better regulate and improve transparency of the largest banks, neither regulators nor market forces have compelled similar transparency into the governance, operations, and risks posed by the very largest asset managers. We work to promote transparency in these managers, and level the playing field for smaller competitors.
